Salt Lake City Temple Seismic Retrofit
VIE has been providing seismic engineering services for the seismic retrofit of the Salt Lake City temple for 3 years. Our work has included seismic bracing design of suspended electrical facilities and anchorage design of electrical equipment. Additionally, VIE has designed the flexible connection that will accommodate 5 feet of lateral movement in any direction from base isolators.
The pictures above depict base isolators. The entire building is jacked up from the ground so that when an earthquake happens, the building can move 5 feet in either direction. VIE didn’t design the isolators, but we did design the electrical systems impacted by them.
