Granite School District, UT Seismic Analysis for FEMA Grant

VIE did a seismic analysis to support a FEMA grant for Frost Elementary School in Salt Lake City, UT. This project consisted of elementary school constructed in several phases from the 1960s to the 1990s. Although some seismic retrofit projects for portions of the school had been completed over the past 20-30 years, Granite School District wished to understand the methods and cost needed to upgrade portions of the school to seismic risk category IV, in order for portions of the school to serve as an emergency shelter after a seismic event. It is in a lower-income area of Salt Lake City, and the population served may need emergency shelters for not only students, but families, as well. VIE developed cost-effective approaches that utilized prior seismic retrofits that enabled this criteria to be met.
